PHMSA offers Hazmat transportation training workshops and webinars throughout the year. These free training opportunities are for anyone who offers or transports hazardous materials in commerce, or has a desire to learn more about DOT's Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR).
PHMSA conducts webinars specialized to meet the needs of industry or the public safety community. Transportation webinars provide a basic overview of the regulatory requirements - what they are, how they apply, and how to comply with them - for shipping and transporting Hazardous Materials.

How to Use the HMR
This session will help you understand the 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and help you to use the Hazardous Material Table to help make sure you are shipping hazmat correctly. At the end of the session attendees will be able to describe the purpose of the 49 CFR; Identify basic roles and responsibilities of shippers; and How to locate reference numbers in the HMR for both Hazard Identification and Packaging Requirements. Time commitment: 90 minutes. Learning Level: Beginner.

Training and Security
This session will help you to understand everyone's responsibilities and roles when hazardous material is on the move in the transportation system according to the 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). We will explore testing, recordkeeping and training sources and then end up learning how to discuss threat assessment through a written plan. Time commitment: 90 minutes. Learning Level: Beginner.

Shipping Papers and You
This session will help you understand the 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) so that you can determine everything that must be on that shipping paper. We will explore identification of the basic description of hazardous materials and learn where that information is found on the shipping paper and explore the other required information that must be listed. Lastly, we will determine how long records must be retained. Time commitment: 90 minutes. Learning Level: Beginner.

Packaging Requirements
This session will help you explore packaging vs. package. We will explore your responsibilities as the shipper and include package identification based on commodity; non-bulk packing vs. bulk packing and how to us the Hazardous Materials Table to help you figure out everything you need to know to move that package in the transportation system. All of this will be done using the 49 Code of Federal Regulations through a guided tour complete with question and answering opportunities while leaving you with resources you can use for years to come. Time commitment: 90 minutes. Learning Level: Beginner.

How to Properly Placard Your Transport Vehicle
In this session we will help you, as a new-to-hazmat employee, figure out the placarding requirements for non-bulk and bulk shipments; find subsidiary placarding provisions and talk about placarding exceptions. We will do this by exploring the 49 Code of Federal Regulations and DOT Chart 16 with a skilled instructor who will make sure you have the resources you need to accomplish the tasks of transporting hazmat and communicating hazards along your way. Marking and Labeling:
In this session, we will work to make sure you are aware of the requirements surrounding marking and labeling while providing you with information to be more familiar on how the 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Hazardous Material Regulation (HMR), drives safety in the transportation of hazardous materials. We will explore the key terms related to marking and labeling and understand your responsibilities of ensuring proper hazard communication. Time commitment: 90 minutes. Learning Level: Beginner.
