PHMSA's safety inspectors, investigators, and other field personnel serves to ensure transportation safety and security by conducting compliance inspections and incident and accident response and investigations.  Additionally, PHMSA's pipeline safety inspectors, hazardous materials investigators, and other field personnel perform safety, performance and regulatory adequacy and fitness determinations; execute outreach, education and training activities; and provide feedback, information and intelligence as a result of their daily activities.
