About the Office
PHMSA’s Office of Pipeline Safety is responsible for carrying out a national program to ensure the safe, reliable, and environmentally-sound operation of the nation’s natural gas and hazardous liquid pipeline transportation system.
Office of Pipeline Safety Divisions
Policy and Programs
The Office of the Deputy Associate Administrator for Policy and Programs supports PHMSA’s mission through developing, proposing, and implementing regulatory policy initiatives and regulations governing the safe operation of the nation’s hazardous liquid and natural gas pipeline transportation system. The office also directs education and outreach efforts to promote the adoption and increased use of safety programs and activities by state and local governments, pipeline operators, and the general public in their efforts to enhance safety.
Field Operations
The Office of the Deputy Associate Administrator for Field Operations supports PHMSA’s mission through administering a national pipeline safety inspection and enforcement program to support compliance of Federal pipeline safety regulations. The office is responsible for providing executive direction, policy, and national coordination for regional operations, emergency support and security, and drug and alcohol programs for pipeline operators.
