Current PHMSA Grant Opportunities
PHMSA provides comprehensive grant programs that are designed to improve damage prevention, develop new technologies, improve both hazmat and pipeline safety. PHMSA is currently offering grant opportunities in support of the following initiatives:
Pipeline Safety:
- State Damage Prevention Program Grants - to establish comprehensive state programs designed to prevent damage to underground pipelines in states that do not have such programs and to improve damage prevention programs in states that do. Eligible recipients can receive up to $100,000 in support of state pipeline damage prevention programs.

- Pipeline Safety 2018 State One-Call Grant - to provide funding to state agencies in promoting damage prevention, including changes with their state underground damage prevention laws, related compliance activities, training and public education. Eligible recipients can receive up to $60,000 in support of One-Call related projects.

- Pipeline Safety Technical Assistance Grants to Communities - to encourage community involvement in pipeline safety, including localized projects related to engineering or other scientific analysis of pipeline safety issues, such as public awareness activities or technology solutions. Eligible recipients can receive up to $100,000 in support of TAG related projects.

Hazardous Materials Safety:
- Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness Tribal Grants - to assist Native American Tribes in developing, improving, and carrying out training and planning programs that address differing needs for Tribal locations based on emergency response capabilities, commodity flow studies, and hazard analysis.

- Supplemental Public Sector Training Grants - to aid national non-profit organizations with training instructors to conduct hazardous materials response training programs for individuals with a statutory responsibility to respond to hazardous materials accidents and incidents. Eligible recipients can receive up to $934,000 in support of Hazmat public sector training related projects.

- Hazardous Materials Instructor Training Grants - to aid non-profit hazardous materials employee organizations in conducting train-the-trainer programs for employees. Eligible recipients can receive up to $1,000,000 in support of Hazmat instructor training related projects.
