Incident Statistics

***

We are experiencing a delay in processing 5800.1 hazardous materials incident reports due to an extraordinary influx in new data submissions. We are working diligently to process 5800.1 reports in a timely manner as they are received. Our primary objective is to ensure the quality and reliability of the data we provide. This priority will not change, but we are implementing a new workflow strategy to reduce the processing delay. Thank you for your patience.

If you have any questions, please send an email to: PhmsaHAZMATICS@dot.gov.

PHMSA produces a series of reports which provide statistical information on incidents by type, year, geographical location, and other factors. Data is updated nightly and can be downloaded into PDF, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Incident data and summary statistics for current and previous years are provided as appropriate. The data provided is that from the Hazardous Materials Incident Report Form 5800.1.

Available Reports

Incident data and summary statistics for previous years are provided in a new, easy-to-navigate format.

PHMSA OHMS has developed pre-defined CAN (Conditions, Actions, and Needs) Reports based on the most commonly requested data.

Users of PHMSA's Hazardous Materials Incident Statistic Reports now have the ability to "drill down" to view specific computer-generated incident reports representative of the DOT F 5800.1 form. Some reports have interactive graphs, which can be changed based on pre-selected prompts.

Search the Hazmat Incident Database

The Hazmat Incident Report Search Tool presents information from the Hazardous Materials Incident Report Form that can be shared with stakeholders about the size, frequency and impacts of hazardous materials releases during transportation and improve the safe transportation of hazardous materials.
