Incident Statistics

PHMSA produces a series of reports which provide statistics on incidents by type, year, geographical location, and other factors. The data is from the DOT Hazardous Materials Incident Report Form 5800.1. Data is updated nightly and can be downloaded into PDF, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Available Reports

Incident data and summary statistics for previous years are provided in an easy-to-navigate format.

Users have the ability to "drill down" to view specific computer-generated incident reports representing the DOT 5800.1 data. Some reports have interactive graphs, which can be changed based on pre-selected prompts.

Search the Hazmat Incident Database

The Hazmat Incident Report Search Tool can be used to query data from the DOT Hazardous Materials Incident Report Form. The data can be shared with stakeholders about the size, frequency, and impacts of hazardous materials releases during transportation and used to improve the safe transportation of hazardous materials.
