Incident Information
PHMSA is committed to taking authorized actions to prevent pipeline and underground natural gas storage incidents and mitigate damage if and when an incident occurs. In order to maintain safety along the nation's 2.6-million-mile energy transportation network, PHMSA makes risk-based, data-driven decisions. PHMSA maintains an extensive, public pipeline database, available to states and industry to identify and/ or assess pipeline and underground natural gas storage safety challenges and potential solutions. The database includes data and analyses of pipeline inventories (e.g. cast iron pipeline inventory), pipeline and underground natural gas storage incidents, and other information submitted by operators. Most of the data comes from operator-submitted reports required by federal regulations.
