This notice proposes establishment of a set of comprehensive safety standards governing operations (including security), maintenance, fire protection and corrosion control in liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities used in the transportation of natural gas by pipeline in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce. Current safety standards do not adequately cover these topics. The new standards would provide safety primarily through development and implementation of written procedures, personnel training, and standardized tests and inspections.
