New HAZMAT Research Reports

PHMSA’s Hazardous Materials Research, Development and Technology team recently completed two new reports analyzing the potential safety impacts associated with changing the concentration of fine grain metal powders used in pyrotechnics and the risks associated transporting aerosols.

For full details, see PHMSA’s:

  • Fine Grain Metal Powder Final Report:  Examines the potential safety impacts on hazard classification when changing the concentration of fine grain metal powders in pyrotechnic compositions.
  • Aerosol Transportation Risk Assessment:  Examines whether the United Nations Model Regulations' definition of aerosols maintain an equivalent level of safety to the Hazardous Material Regulations' definition used in the United States.

Visit PHMSA's Hazmat R&D Reports page for more research and development reports and other resources prepared by the Office of Hazardous Materials Safety.
