Field Operations Overview

PHMSA's Office of Pipeline Safety (OPS) Field Operations serves to ensure pipeline safety by conducting compliance inspections, incident and accident investigations, stakeholder outreach, education and training activities. OPS encourages companies subject to the agency's regulations and oversight to develop rigorous compliance programs that help minimize the potential for violations. To foster compliance, the agency issues rule interpretations, advisory bulletins, frequently asked questions (FAQs), and holds public meetings and workshops, which are regularly posted on the PHMSA website. The links to the left provide additional details about OPS enforcement, effort allocation, and drug and alcohol requirements.
