Airwave Environmental Technologies

Bay 2, 2915 - 19th Street N.E.

Calgary, Alberta, Canada T2E 7A2

Dear Ms. Fletcher:

In your letter of October 23, 1995, you inquired about the Department of Transportation's position of Airwave Environmental Technologies' equipment to conduct aerial gas pipeline surveillance. It is our policy not to issue general acceptance for new technologies but rather leave it to each individual operator to review the available technologies and determine if they are adequate.

You are welcome to submit a technical information packet to Mr. Richard Sanders, Division Manager of our:

Transportation Safety Institute (TSI)

Pipeline Safety Division DTI-60,

PO Box 25082

Oklahoma City, OK 73125-5050

and ask him for his comments.

If you have any further questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to call Mr. Jaime A. Hernandez of my office at 713/750-1746.

Sincerely,

James C. Thomas

Southwest Regional Director
