Dear Mr. Wahl:
This is in reference to your inquiry asking whether the required specification marking may be stamped on the inside of the valve protection collar of a DOT - 4BA cylinder under the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR.; 49 CPR Parts 171-180) .
The answer is yes, provided that the marking requirements as prescribed in §§ 178.3, 178.35(f), and 178.51(n) of the HMR are met.
