This is in response to your request to Mr. Danny Shelton, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation, for a written clarification of certain venting requirements for cargo tanks under the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR; 49 CFR Parts 171-180), as discussed at a recent Truck Trailer Manufacturers Association/National Tank Truck Carriers Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
