Dear Mr. Zakotnik:

This responds to your November 19, 2009 request for information on the import of liquefied petroleum gas cylinders manufactured to European standards and intended for automotive use. Please accept my apology for our delay in responding and any inconvenience it may have caused.

Cylinders intended for installation in automobiles come under the jurisdiction of the Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). You should contact the Office of the Associate Administrator for Rulemaking in NHTSA at 202-366-1810 for information on certifying cylinders for use in automobiles.

I hope this answers your inquiry. If you need additional assistance, please contact this Office.

Sincerely,

Charles E. Betts
