The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Administration (PHMSA) and other industry leaders have been working especially hard this April to prevent potentially dangerous pipeline incidents by telling Americans to "Know what's below. Call 811 Before You Dig."

Every state has a one call law and governors are issuing National Safe Digging Month proclamations to support the Call 811 safe digging campaign.

Excavation damage remains one of the leading causes of serious pipeline accidents. These accidents are preventable and the first step is a call to 811. For National Safe Digging Month 2012, everyone can also promote 811 by pledging to call before digging: make the 811 Promise and spread the word.
