This notice proposes to permit the use of an alternative method for determining the maximum allowable operating pressure (MAOP) of a gas pipeline when its class location (population density increases. The alternative would permit reduction of MAOP in direct proportion to a previous test pressure. The current rule unnecessarily requires retesting even though the previous test provides an adequate margin of safety above the MAOP.
