R&D Forum April 16, 2015
PHMSA's hazardous materials research and development (R&D) program conducts and supports research to support regulatory and enforcement activities and to provide the technical and analytical foundation necessary for planning, evaluating, improving and implementing the hazardous materials safety program. The program sponsors research and development projects focused on providing near-term solutions that will address transport risks, improve transport and packaging safety and increase the reliability of the nation's hazardous materials transport network.
PHMSA recognizes that it cannot achieve its strategic R&D goals without guidance, assistance and cooperation of the regulated industry and the general public. PHMSA hosted the 2015 R&D forum with three goals in mind: inform the public and industry of our proposed research projects and projects that have recently begun; provide an opportunity for interested industry representatives to present their recommendations to PHMSA; and provide a forum where research projects and the overall program can be discussed and prioritized. PHMSA believes all three goals were met and appreciates the participant's input and recommendations.
