RE: Corrosion control on gathering systems in nonrural areas.

Dear Mr. Caldwell:

Having reviewed Subpart I of the Minimum Federal Safety Standards a question has been raised as to whether the requirements for Subpart I are applicable to gathering systems in nonrural areas. No mention is made in Subpart I of gathering systems and only transmission and distribution systems are mentioned.

Dear Mr. Jacquot:

This responds to your letter of May 14, 1974, asking whether Subpart I of 49 CFR Part 192 applies to gathering systems in nonrural areas.

Subpart I applies to all pipelines subject to Part 192, including gathering lines in nonrural areas as described in section 192.1. Where certain requirements in Subpart I specifically relate to transmission lines, these requirements apply with equal force to gathering lines as provided in section 192.9.
