PHMSA Solicits Proposals for Pipeline Safety Research and Development Program Research Awards. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) announced today that its Pipeline Safety Research and Development (R&D) Program is accepting proposals for research awards for research focusing on pipeline threat prevention; pipeline leak detection; pipeline anomaly detection/characterization; underground natural gas storage; and liquefied natural gas. PHMSA’s R&D Program awards funding to eligible entities to stimulate research into, and promote commercialization of, new technologies that can help protect people, property, and the environment from pipeline failures while keeping the energy sector operating uninterrupted. Eligible applicants include universities and other academic institutions; individuals; profit organizations; nonprofit organizations; states; U.S. territories and possessions; American Indian tribes; and local governments. Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. EDT on August 14, 2017.
