PHMSA Announces Pipeline and HazMat Safety Grant Funding Opportunities. The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration published Notices of Funding Opportunity for the Hazardous Materials Community Safety Grant (CS) and its Technical Assistance Grant (TAG) for pipeline safety. The CS program provides up to $1 million to nonprofit organizations to conduct outreach and training that prepares communities to deal with rail incidents involving Class 3 flammable liquids. The CS also funds training for state and local officials responsible for enforcing safety regulations for the transport of such materials. The deadline to apply for a CS is September 4, 2017. Technical Assistance Grants provide local communities and groups of individuals up to $100,000 for technical assistance related to pipeline safety, including engineering or other scientific analysis, or to promote public participation in official proceedings.
