Michael Reles
Michael Reles is the Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Executive team at the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). In this role, he serves as PHMSA's senior career official for federal financial management, acquisitions, and information technology services. His responsibilities include requesting and managing appropriated resources for PHMSA's safety programs, overseeing all financial accounting, reporting, and systems of internal control, and ensuring efficient procurement of goods and services to support PHMSA's mission. Additionally, he oversees the development and maintenance of critical PHMSA safety information systems, including mapping, incident reporting, and safety inspection tools, while safeguarding their integrity with robust cybersecurity measures
Michael joined PHMSA in 2014 as the Director of Budget and Finance and assumed the role of Chief Financial Officer in 2023. Prior to PHMSA, he spent eleven years at the Executive Office of the President, Office of National Drug Control Policy, contributing to the development of the President's National Drug Control Strategy. Michael entered Federal service through the Presidential Management Fellows program.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Science in Education Administration and Policy Studies, both from the University at Albany (NY), and is a Certified Public Accountant in Virginia.
