NAME OF PERSONS

Joe de la Fuente, OPS

SUBJECT:  Question on record retention of weld x-rays on double           jointed pipe.

DIGEST:  Joe had a call from Mr. Du Plissy of Sun Pipeline asking whether or not the film of welds on double jointed pipe had to be retained and if their location had to be identified as required in 195.234(g).

After conferring with Messrs Fulton and Furrow, it was agreed that welds of double jointed pipe must be treated the same way as field welds under 195.234(g) even if the double jointed welds were made at the pipe mill or a doubling jointing yard under controlled condition and x-rayed 100% if Sun Pipeline cannot comply, they should ask for a waiver.

It was agreed that the regulation is not reasonable as written now, but must be complied with until reprised.
