Mr. J. G. Williamson
Vice President, Kansas Power
and light Company
138 North Santa Fe
Salina, Kansas 67401

Dear Mr. Williamson:

This is in reply to your letter of February 25, 1971, concerning your company's inability to
complete the survey for initial determination of class location before April 15, 1971, as required
by Section 192.607 of the Minimum Federal Safety Standards for the Transportation of gas.

When these standards were issued on August 11, 1970, (35 F.R. 13248), it was stated in the
preamble that a public hearing would be held in late April 1971 to get the results of the required
studies and to give interested parties an opportunity to present their recommendations for an
adjustment which might be required in the schedule for affirming or revising operating pressures.

In order to afford you, and others similarly situated, sufficient time to complete the studies, the
meeting will not be held until the middle of May. A copy of the notice of hearing is enclosed.

In the meantime, you are requested to make every effort to complete the required study as quickly
as possible.

Sincerely,

/signed/

Joseph C. Caldwell
Director, Acting
Office of Pipeline Safety
