Only 20 MB of hard disk space is required, but much more will be required if the Microsoft .NET Framework must be installed (see below). ERG 2020 for Windows is dependent on the Microsoft .NET Framework v4.6.1. The ERG 2020 for Windows setup program will install this system dependency automatically if it detects it does not already exist on your computer. Its installation requires administrative privileges and as much as 500 MB of hard disk space. Installation ============ To install ERG 2020 for Windows, simply execute the setup program, ERG_Windows_Setup.exe, and follow the instructions. If the Microsoft .NET Framework dependency indicated above is not detected on the target computer, it will be automatically installed. If the .NET Framework dependency gets installed, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you verify you have the latest updates for it by running Windows Update (http://update.microsoft.com). In particular, service pack and security updates may be available. NOTE WELL: If the Microsoft .NET Framework needs to be downloaded, be aware that it is large, and thus the download and installation may take some time. If desired, the Microsoft .NET Framework V4.6.1 can be manually downloaded and installed from the following site before attempting to install ERG for Windows: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49981 Upgrades ======== If a previous version of ERG 2016 for Windows already exists on your PC, it will be automatically upgraded during the installation of the new version. However, note that the 2004, 2008, and 2012 versions of ERG for Windows are separate applications; if ERG 2012 for Windows is already installed, it will remain installed even after installing ERG 2020 for Windows. To uninstall ERG 2012 for Windows or any previous version, see the Uninstalling section below. Uninstalling ============ Uninstall ERG for Windows using Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel. Known Issues ============ Parts of ERG 2020 for Windows will not display properly unless the normal (default) setting is used for the DPI scaling (font size) option. It is primarily a guide to aid first responders in (1) quickly identifying the specific or generic classification of the material(s) involved in the incident, and (2) protecting themselves and the general public during this initial response phase of the incident. ERG 2020 for Windows is a software version of the 2020 edition of the ERG. Distributed by the U. S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), its development was provided by the National Library of Medicine (NLM). For downloads and additional information, see https://www.phmsa.dot.gov/hazmat/erg/emergency-response-guidebook-erg.
