What do you mean it's not poisonous?

Some people may remember that the gas delivered to their homes up through the early 1950's was considered toxic or poisonous. The gas, one of the first available for use in homes, was "manufactured gas," produced from a form of coal referred to as coke. Manufactured gas was poisonous and could cause death when breathed. Today's natural gas is not toxic but is an
asphyxiant (meaning it displaces air) and could cause illness or death if prolonged breathing occurs.
